Magento 2: Update visual swatch option image when options are changed

0

I have products that are configurable by 2 attributes, format and pattern. Format is a text swatch and pattern is a visual swatch that uses the product image. All my simple products have a swatch image set. The pattern option's visual swatch needs to update when the user changes the format option since the appearance of the product changes based on the format.

I assumed this was default functionality, but I can't seem to find any info on it. Am I just missing a config setting or will I need to build this out on my own?

To clarify, the product gallery is updating perfectly when options are changed. I'm only asking about the actual option swatch images.

I'm running Magento 2.3.0 Commerce.
