Tennis career[edit]

Albot has achieved a number of firsts for a Moldovan professional tennis player. In September 2013 he won the ATP Challenger event in Fergana, Uzbekistan, becoming the first player from his country to win an ATP Challenger tournament. At the 2014 US Open in Flushing, N.Y. he won three straight matches in the Men's Qualifying Tournament to gain a berth in the main draw, becoming the first Moldovan to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam Tournament. He qualified for Wimbledon in 2016 and won his first Grand Slam match in 4 attempts, defeating Gastao Elias of Portugal in the first round. He lost in the second round to #19 seed Bernard Tomic of Australia in 4 sets.

In May, 2015 he teamed with Dusan Lajovic to win the doubles title at the inaugural Istanbul Open in Istanbul, Turkey, becoming the only Moldovan to win an ATP World Tour level event. At the 2015 French Open he partnered with Lukas Rosol and reached the quarterfinals of the doubles tournament. At the 2018 US Open, he and partner Malek Jaziri defeated the #4 and #6 seeded teams on their way to reaching the doubles semifinals

His ATP worldwide singles ranking of No. 99 on August 3, 2015 made him the first Moldovan to break into the top 100. He achieved a career high ranking of No. 85 on August 24, 2015.

In 2015 he won the Kolkata Challenger and reached the final in Furth, qualifying for the ATP Challengers Tour Finals in São Paulo, Brazil, where he finished 5th in the 8 player field.

In 2017 for the first time he played in the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments. He received direct entry into the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. At the US Open he qualified and then won two main draw matches before being defeated by #17 seed Sam Querrey in the third round, his best singles finish at a Grand Slam to date. He matched this achievement in 2018 at Wimbledon, defeating #20 seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round before eventually losing in the third round to #9 seed John Isner.

In 2018 he reached his first ATP tour level singles semifinals at the 2018 Moselle Open where he lost to Frenchman Gilles Simon, the eventual champion.
